MCR is a micro-roastery consisting of one woman and two small-volume coffee roasters.

What’s with this name?
The first coffee variety I roasted in a professional capacity was maracaturra, a mutation of coffea arabica that produces the largest beans I’ve ever seen. I was immediately fascinated by how diverse the world of coffee is in both form and flavor.
Mutation is synonymous with change. To be a mutant is to debut something new. We proudly wear the name “mutant” with great expectations for our creative future.

Do you ever think about the way a cup of coffee centers you in the moment wherever you happen to be, but lets you in on a little worldly knowledge?
Coffee is the product of work that spans countries and continents. It takes a considerable investment of time, even generations, to cultivate. Its business is done by countless specialists of production and logistics to cross borders and sometimes overcome physical barriers to reach us.
Thinking about this thing as a simple pleasure wouldn’t be wrong.
But the knowledge that coffee’s an accomplishment of labor and cooperation between people the world over is a gift that’s always waiting to be discovered.
By appreciating coffee, we appreciate our global family and engage with the efforts that make it possible, wherever we may enjoy it.
My hope as a roaster is to share a little of what I’ve learned over the years. Maybe we can meet at that place between the local and global.
